What the Skincare Brands in Cameroon Won’t Tell You About Skin Lightening

What most Cameroonians don’t know is that skin lightening products (glowing skincare products) in the forms of lotions, creams, supplements, glowing soap, oil, tea etc are medications for the skin just like paracetamol, aspirin and other drugs are medication for the body.

As medications for the skin, skin lightening products aught to be used occasionally to achieve a particular skin tone/goal and not something that were designed to be used continuously 365.

Just like we use paracetamol, Asprin, and other drugs to treat various disease in the body and once the illness is gone, we immediately stop taking the drugs and continue drinking our normal water on a daily basis, in a similar manner skin lightening and other skincare products aught to be used only when need be.

If you have headache and you take paracetamol for a few days and you notice that the headache is gone, do you continue taking the paracetamol??? You stop right??? and you continue when you feel the headache again right???

That’s exactly how the skincare lightening product were designed to be used.

However this is not the case as tons of Cameroonians are using the skin lightening products on a daily basis in the name of maintaining a glowing skin.

There are three reasons why we use the skin lightening products;

1) To treat hyperpigmentation and lighten dark spots.
2) To achieve a uniform skin tone
3) To alter our skin tone (from dark skin to brown or from brown to fair skin tone).

Once you have achieve one of the 3 main goals, you can stop using your skin lightening products or pause for a while, then you can continue again when need arise i.e. when you notice that you have gotten darker due to the effect of the sun.

Note: The exfoliating soaps can be used once a week after you have achieved your goal with the skin lightening products.

The sunscreen lotions are a must have especially during the dry season characterized by ultra violent rays which causes hyperpigmentation, sunburns and other skin issues.

During sunny days, its advisable to apply sunscreens on areas of your skin that would be exposed to the sun, before you step out of your house or office or before you go to the beach.

For those of you who don’t know, the sun is the greatest enemy of a glowing skin (in Africa followed by Acne, stretch marks etc) hence a sunscreen is indispensable to anybody who wish to maintain a glowing skin.

However even though sunscreen lotions are extremely important, it will surprise you to know that most of the so called organic skincare brands don’t sell sunscreen or even educate their customers on the importance of sunscreens.

Maybe don’t sell it or tell their customers about the importance of sunscreens because they want their customers to keep coming back to patronize them.

Like i mentioned earlier, the moisturizing body lotions and creams are the best skincare products that Cameroonians should be using on a daily basis after achieving their goal with the lightening products.

Unlike the skin lightening lotions and creams, the Body moisturizing lotions have no effect on your melanin or get rid of any skin blemish i.e. they won’t lighten your skin or get rid of skin issues like acne, dark spots, stretch marks etc.

Body moisturizing lotions and creams will only hydrate your skin and keep it looking fresh through out the day like you just came out of the bathroom.

The body moisturizers are therefore good for people who have achieved their skin goals.

Things you need to do before buying a skin lightening product

*** Determine your goal (figure out the skin tone you will like to achieve)
*** Explain your goal to the organic skincare brands and they will give you a skin lightening product that will suit your goal.
Make sure you petronize a reputable skincare brand in order not to buy a skin lightening product that contains harsh bleaching ingredients like Hydroquinone, mercury, steroid.

Mind you, the skin lightening products that contains those harsh chemicals can damage your skin or cause you to develop stretch marks in a long run.

*** While using your skin lightening product always monitor your skin transformation and stop using the skin lightening product as soon as you notice that you have achieved your desired skin tone, you can then stop using your skin lightening product and switch to your daily moisturizing lotion or cream.
*** When you notice that your skin tone has become dull again or dark, you can switch back again to your skin lightening products.
